5th February 2018: Two people who, in their eras, were well known and respected in Leicestershire chess circles have died, both well into their 90s - one recently and the other just over a year ago. Andrew Finch, a man of considerable intellect, was a member of the Wigston club for almost 20 years, from the early 1980s until 2000. Allan Castle gave up chess in 1972, or thereabouts. However, he was a prominent player, a fixture in the county team in the 1950s and 1960s, reaching a grade of over 180 in his prime, and an important organiser for the Leicester chess club. To read a fine obituary written by Brian Foreman please click here. A tribute to Allan will be posted here shortly.
